"Prof. Listanti received the Dr. Eng. degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Roma ""La Sapienza"" in October 1980.
From January 1981 to April 1982 he had a grant by Fodazione Ugo Bordoni for a study on ""Voice and data integration on packet switched networks"".
In January 1981 he joined the Fondazione Bordoni as researcher in the branch ""Networks and Services"". From July 1987 to October 1991, he has been leader of the group ""TLC network architectures"" at Fondazione Ugo Bordoni.
In November 1991 he became Associated Professor of Switching Systems at INFOCOM Department of the University of Roma ""La Sapienza"". Since November 2000 he is Full Professor of Telecommunications"" at INFOCOM Department of the University of Roma ""La Sapienza"".
From 1994 to 2001 he has been also Visiting Professor of Telecommunication Networks at the University of Roma "Tor Vergata".
Currently he teaches the courses on "Internet", "Multimedia Communications 1" and ""Telecommunications"" at the School of Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Roma "La Sapienza".
He holds advanced technical courses invited by the major companies in the field of telecommunications (Telecom Italia, H3G, Ericsson, ecc.).
Since its foundation (1994) he collaborates with CoRiTel, a Research Consortium in the field of Telecommunication among the Universities of Roma ""La Sapienza"", University of Bologna, University of Salerno and Ericcsson Lab Italia.
From 1997 to 2002 he has been representative of the University of Roma "La Sapienza"" at CNIT, a Consortium joining 32 Italian Universities with the scope of promoting research activity in the area of telecommunication.
He is author of more than 130 papers, published on the most important scientific magazines and journals and on the proceedings of the main international conferences in the area of telecommunications.
He is co-author of a international patent on ""Interconnection networks based on Delta networks and permutation establishment algorithm"".
He has been session chairman in several international conferences and is also involved in the paper review processes of the most important scientific magazines and journals.
He has been guest editor of the feature topic ""Optical Networking Solutions for Next Generation Internet Networks"", appeared on IEEE Communications Magazine, September 2000.
He is co-chair of the Technical Program Committee of the International Conference ""Quality of Service in Multiservice IP networks (QoS-IP)"".
He is member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and of the IEEE Communication Society.
In about 25 years of activity, his research interest has been focused on the general area of architectures and performance evaluation of telecommunication networks; in particular, his activity has touched the following topics: packet switched networks, narrow-band and broadband integrated networks (N-ISDN and B-ISDN); Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM); Local area networks and Metropolitan Area Networks (LANs and MANs); mobile and wireless networks; architectures of high speed packet switching nodes; IP networks; QoS protocols for IP networks; routing and protection strategies in IP/MPLS networks; WDM optical networks; Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS); architectures of optical packet switching nodes. Currently his interest is focused on the following topics: definitions and modelling of protocols for network security and routing and MAC solutions for sensor networks.
He participated, as expert of the Italian Administration, at national and international standardization commissions and working groups in the field of telecommunication networks (CCITT, ETSI, ITU, IETF, ecc.).
He coordinated on the behalf of the Fondazione Bordoni and the Italian Administration the activity of many national and international study and research projects in the frame of the programs RACE, ACTS, ITS, COST, ESA, MURST etc.
From 2001 to 2002 he has been scientific coordinator of the project "NEBULA", supported by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and joining six Italian Universities.
From 2003 to 2004 he has been scientific coordinator of the group "Experimental developments" of the project "TANGO" supported by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and joining ten Italian Universities.
Since April 2006 he is representative of Italy in ICT Domain Commettee of COST program."
